Introducing TrackerAI: Purpose-Built AI for Veterinary Medicine

After two years of research with working veterinarians, we're launching the first AI platform designed specifically for clinical veterinary reasoning — not adapted from a general-purpose model.

TrackerAI started with a frustration shared by every vet we spoke to: general-purpose AI tools like ChatGPT or Gemini give plausible-sounding answers about veterinary cases, but they're optimised for human medicine. They hallucinate drug dosages. They confuse species-specific physiology. They can't distinguish a routine presentation from an emergency.

After two years of collaboration with practicing veterinarians across small animal, equine, and exotic species, we built something different.

Three specialist models, not one general one

TrackerAI ships with three fine-tuned models, each trained on a distinct clinical task:

  • Completion Model — Pattern-recognition for rapid differential generation. Optimised for speed and breadth: you get a structured list of differentials, workup, and initial management in under 10 seconds.
  • Reasoning Model — Deep step-by-step clinical reasoning. Shows its work. Explains why each differential was included or excluded, how the signalment influences the differential rank, and what findings would change the assessment.
  • Behavioral Models — Dedicated models for behavioral assessment, supporting both collar wearable data (sleep, activity, baseline changes) and clinical history-based evaluation.

What fine-tuning actually means here

We started from Mistral 7B — a 7-billion parameter model that punches well above its weight on reasoning tasks. Using QLoRA (4-bit quantised low-rank adaptation), we fine-tuned on a curated dataset of veterinary clinical cases, textbook differential lists, and expert-annotated emergency flags.

Fine-tuning doesn't just change what the model says — it changes how it thinks about a problem. Our models structure their output as validated JSON schemas rather than free-form prose, making integration into practice management systems straightforward.

Built for the API-first world

Every model is available via a simple REST API. Authentication uses either JWT session tokens or long-lived API keys. A typical analysis call takes less than 15 seconds, returns structured JSON, and costs one unit of your daily quota.

The free tier gives every registered user 20 analyses per day — enough to evaluate the platform seriously with real cases from your practice.

What's next

We're actively building: veterinary image diagnostics (X-ray, ultrasound), smart collar integration for longitudinal tracking, and livestock-specific models. The roadmap is driven by what practicing vets tell us they actually need.

If you're a veterinary professional and want to shape what we build next, we'd love to hear from you at hello@trackerai.ai.
